I think you should experiment with a few things and just go with whatever you find you like. There's no wackywet police who are going to arrest you if you're not wearing socks in the pool! To me its all about being comfortable with yourself and comfortable with whatever clothes you chose to wear. I know people here sometimes insist that you HAVE to wear shoes, or HAVE to wear long pants instead of shorts or whatever. That's fine for them if that's what they like, but there's nothing wrong with you if you prefer something different from that.
