Well, it depends. To me, although I prefer long pants (jeans to be precise), shorts can be good clothed swim if they are made of thick fabric which cannot be mistaken with swimwear. For example, a pair of denim shorts offer sensations close enough to long jeans, get heavy when wet, etc. same with thick fabric cargo shorts etc. Sure, boarding shorts made of thin quick drying material is not clothed swim. My rule of thumb, if they are not designed to swim, then they can be clothed swim. Second rule of thumb, if you enjoy them the way we do clothed swims, then they are clothed swim for you.
