Down this end of the world, wearing a shirt of some kind for summer swimming seems to be a given now if you don't want to slather your torso with sunblock. The surf brands make rashies in loose t-shirt styles; one no longer has to buy the old-school skintight kind that emphasises one's lack of fitness 🤣 There are even hooded rashies. If you wear an actual cotton t-shirt in the water, as I've been known to do, nobody will give you a second glance.

You were lucky, btw. The only swim I ever got to take at my school camp was in the freezing glacier-fed river the evil teachers forced us into. Regulation swimwear back then was Adidas Beckenbauer shorts, which at least was better than the horrid Speedos my old mum used to buy me. Togs togs togs.. undies! undies! undies! (I probably can't include the YouTube link here; Google it!)
