That's great you had to wear white nylon shorts for swimming in and I would have loved that. I only ever saw one guy swimming in his and I was so jealous, but could tell he was embarrassed yet excited at the same time.
I swam in my black nylon shorts years later at school and now swim in white nylon shorts on the beach when on holiday.
