That is a surprise! Given what a crowded country England is, I'd think the footpaths would be teeming. I can sometimes have the good fortune of solitude if it's a rainy day, but we don't get nearly as many of them here as you do. New Year's Day was like that. It rained almost all day, and I spent 7½ hours hiking and didn't see a soul on the trails. That was a great time.
