Oh man, to be so close to the mud and yet so far away! Several years ago I attended one of the mud races as a spectator hoping for the same opportunity as you. I had hopes of jumping in after the race, but the organizers were strongly discouraging such activity. I am sure it as from a liability standpoint. So the next year I entered the race even though I am not in great physical shape. By the time I made it to the end and the final deep mud pit I was exhausted! I did spend about 15 minutes sitting at the edge of the pit, covered in mud, while I tried to catch my breath.
