I've been to the Connecticut tournament a couple of times. Definitely would go again if I were in the area.

Large contiguous mud area at the bottom of a hill with probably 20+ courts. Some areas around the edge where you can get muddy all day. They have had a big sprinkler thing going all day up at the top of the hill so people can wash off, which makes a very nice mudslide that people take advantage of.

After the initial bracketing there is a substantial break (like 30-60 minutes) while they tally all the scores and get the brackets ready for the championship series. During that break nobody cares if you go out and play in the mud, and you might find a pickup game to play. After that, as the day wears on and the bracket gets smaller, the courts empty out and you can play all you like. There are enough people there that you won't look too out of place or get hassled.

With so many people you see all types - lots of people trying to stay more-or-less clean, a few who are trying to get as dirty as possible. By the end, it's the try-hards playing volleyball and they're the least likely to actually have any fun in the mud.

Looks like they have tentatively scheduled a date for this year, pending COVID restrictions. Hope they hold the tournament and hope folks are able to go.
