Nash, the idea of bathing/swimming in cold water to promote health has been around for centuries. There must be a certain amount of truth to it. I've seen news articles of many elderly people who live in cold climates swimming in the middle of winter in lakes where they chopped out ice to make a space to swim and they swear by its benefits.

I know a man who lives on a lake in New Hampshire and he loves swimming and does so every day starting just as soon as the ice breaks up until it freezes over again and he is older than I am and in extreme good health. So there must be some truth to it.

Despite the fact that I have done clothed polar dips in the past I am not a proponent of cold water bathing - give me a hot shower any day! But I do have to admit that I have not suffered any ill effects following those polar dips and have to admit that it is kind of exhilerating and heightens one's senses. Let us know if you continue experimenting with cold showers and how it works for you.
