Since 2017 I have regularly taken part in “parkruns” which are 5km running events that take place every Saturday morning in fourteen countries across five continents. Events are run by volunteers and participation is free of charge, and they are usually held in public open spaces.
Most runners wear black shorts with a variety of tops, and it would be most unusual to see anyone wearing their PE kit, though you see a few soccer kits.
The parkrun reminds me of the dreaded school cross country run. The events take place whatever the weather and sometimes you get a good soaking.
There are never showers available. People tend to arrive either on foot or by car in their running gear and return home in the same.
After all of my parkruns I have ended up taking a fully clothed shower.
