Another similar event is the annual Great Knaresborough Bed Race which is held on the second weekend in June every year. Knaresborough is a town in North Yorkshire, England.
Up to 90 teams of six runners transport a cart ("bed") carrying a seventh person. Teams typically consist of members of a running club, local business or a group of friends.
The course is 2.4 miles long and takes the teams around the steep and narrow streets of the town, but ends up with a neck-deep crossing of the River Nidd, which is fast-flowing and cold.
What teams wear depends on how they are comprised. For example, members of an running club will wear their official kit. A group formed from a local business will probably wear black shorts and printed t-shirts. Groups of friends may wear gym kit.
Most of the runners keep on their regular underwear which is often visible under the wet and clinging sportswear after the river crossing.
