There are many options. The easiest is to swim in relatively clean water if that's available. Jump in the creek after rolling in the mud. There's the "dry cleanup" which I've been known to do. Just let the mud dry on you, and most of it will flake off. Rolling around in snow is another way to get most of it off. Using the garden hose in the back yard is another possibility. In a heavy rain, just be patient, and the rain will do the work for you. Jumping in clean puddles is a fun but slow technique.
